Assessment, Planning and Evaluation Committee (APE)
The purpose of the Assessment, Planning and Evaluation Committee is to provide
guidance and direction for the prevention efforts of NyE Communities Coalition and to
help evaluate those prevention efforts. These goals are met through assessing local
community needs and issues along with how ready the community is to address them and
what resources the community has to direct towards effectively dealing with the identified
needs and issues.

The APEC is made up of coalition staff, individuals from NCC’s partnering agencies, key
stakeholders and interested community members. It meets on a regular basis and its
members receive a high level of training on assessment, planning and evaluation so as to
be knowledgeable about guiding NCC in this area.

The APEC met several times thus far during 2008 to develop and complete a logic model
that will guide alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) prevention activities throughout
the rest of 2008 and into 2009.

As part of this process, APEC members helped refine an NCC created assessment tool
geared towards identifying and ranking various community variables (intervening variables
and contributing factors) that contribute to ATOD issues and put our community at risk.
The APEC members along with key stakeholders and various community members
completed the assessment tool and NCC staff compiled the results which helped identify
the ATOD related issues, assessed how much of a problem each issue was,  how ready
our community is at addressing these issues and what resources we have in the
community that would help address these issues.

From this assessment tool, the APEC further refined and completed the logic model as
well as developed specific strategies to address the selected issues. The following pages
present the logic model as well as the issues and the objectives/strategies selected at this
time to address these issues.
