Methamphetamine (Meth) Awareness
NyE Communities Coalition (NyECC) was funded by Nevada General
Funds and under the direction of the Governor’s Methamphetamine Task
Force to provide community education and awareness specific to
methamphetamine prevention and inclusive of other substances of abuse.

NyECC formed a local methamphetamine task force to examine the
issue specific to our local communities and to determine the most
effective means of addressing the issue.

The committee developed the following plan:

Raise Awareness and educate the community about the dangers and damage of methamphetamine
use.
Target high-risk populations with increased education
Raise awareness, educate, and provide capacity building assistance to the business and employment
related communities
*Business owners and employment agencies will be provided information on policy development
and the implementation of practices that encourage drug free workplaces, along with general
    methamphetamine education and recognition.

Raise awareness and educate the community regarding how to impact local methamphetamine use.
*The community will be made aware of resources for help, for reporting and for information
    regarding methamphetamine use

The implementation of the plan took a very creative route.
NyECC joined forces with WestCare of Nevada and
specifically their Prevention Coordinator, Francie Winters.
The end result was a multi-media event that
creatively incorporated the prevention and
awareness messages into youth skits and art.

If you are interested in being part of the solution related to methamphetamine and other high-status substances of abuse, contact the coalition staff to join the task force.

Update:  In August of 2008 three of the Methodologies Youth – Cynthia
Darrow, Nikki Grebb and Jacob Boggs; along with Stacy Smith of
NyECC and Francie Winters of WestCare were invited to present
the Methodologies Project at a National Conference in Tennessee.
