In the U.S., one person dies every 72 seconds from a tobacco-related disease.
That’s 1200 people a day! It’s an important statistic that we hear often but
sometimes does not generate the attention and outrage it should. There is a way
to make that statistic real so people stop and take notice. We need to do all we
can to educate people, and tell them the real dangers of tobacco. 1200 is a huge
number, but there is a lot we can do to fix it.

NyE Communities Coalition (NyECC) was funded by Funds for Healthy Nevada – Tobacco
Grant. The Funds for Healthy Nevada – Tobacco focus for 2008-2009 is tobacco use
prevention and preventing exposure to second hand smoke.  The projects for this year
include science based tobacco prevention programming for youth up to high school age and
information and awareness campaign that will influence people’s behavior related to
tobacco use. Two specific projects will include National Kick Butts Day and Project 1200.
Keep an eye on this website for more information as it gets closer.
