Prevention of Underage Drinking
NyE Communities Coalition (NyECC) works on the prevention of underage drinking in a
variety of ways.
Enforcement of Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) funds activities within our communities that
help combat underage drinking such as supporting the school district’s “Every 15 Minutes”
program which focuses on the fact that someone in the United States dies every 15 minutes
from drinking and driving. EUDL has also supported collaboration with Nye County Sheriff’s
Office on Compliance Checks and DUI Checkpoints. Youth from within our communities have
attended National Youth Leadership conferences throughout the United States thanks in part
to EUDL.
Through the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) NyECC is working on
decreasing underage access to alcohol, young adult overuse, low perceived
risk of being caught drinking and driving, and low perceived risk of harm from
drinking (emotional, biological and social). These all contribute to - Alcohol
Related Traffic Injuries and Fatalities ages 15 to 24. This work is being done
through variety of strategies that include but are not limited to:

| Media Campaign – throughout Nye and Esmeralda Counties regarding the dangers of underage | |
| alcohol use, drinking and driving, riding with an impaired driver, prom/grad awareness and other high use risk events. | ||
| Alcohol Server Trainings – for businesses to educate about restricting youth access to alcohol | |
| Community Education and Awareness projects including collaboration with partnering agencies and | |
| organizations throughout the counties to provide trainings. |
